A contact centre is a way of organising customer work
A call centre focuses on telephone conversations. An omnichannel contact centre handles calls and digital conversations such as WhatsApp, SMS, email and webchat. The team can answer customers through the channel they use and continue the work when the channel changes.
It does not have to be a large room with hundreds of agents. A small sales or service team can need the same things: a shared business number, assigned messages, customer history, clear responsibility and a way to see which requests still need attention.
Having many channels is only the starting point
A company can have a phone, a WhatsApp account and an email inbox without having a connected operation. If each channel sits with a different person, the customer may have to repeat the problem and staff may miss an earlier promise.
In GoDesk, connected calls and messages sit alongside customer records, opportunities, tickets and tasks. Matching customers correctly and assigning work are part of the setup. Adding another channel should give the customer another way to reach the business, while keeping the team able to continue the conversation.
Follow one customer through the process
Consider an illustrative service request. A customer sends a WhatsApp message about a delayed installation. An agent records the issue, assigns a ticket and agrees to follow up. The customer calls the next day. The next agent can review the customer history and ticket rather than ask the customer to start again.
Answering the call is one step. The useful result is a resolved installation issue, with an owner, a record of the work and an update to the customer. A ticket can remain open after a conversation ends because the underlying work is still unfinished.
What is the difference between a PBX and a contact centre?
A PBX is the business phone system: numbers, staff extensions, transfers, welcome menus and call handling. A voice call centre adds organised customer calling, such as agent queues, outbound campaigns and supervisor reporting. An omnichannel contact centre extends that operation to digital channels and connected customer work.
Modern phone systems can also include messaging and integrations. The practical buying question is therefore which complete workflows you need. GoDesk can provide a managed cloud PBX on its own, or combine it with messaging, sales CRM, ticketing, collections, quotes, workforce management, surveys and quality review.
Choose the tools for the work your business actually does
Sales teams need to qualify leads, prepare quotes and follow up. Support teams need to track issues through resolution. Collections teams need account context, outreach and promises to pay. Supervisors need availability, service levels, quality and results.
For a demonstration, bring one real business process, the channels customers use and the people involved. Ask to see the request arrive, move to the right person, create the required work and reach its next outcome. That reveals more than a tour of disconnected feature screens.
